Grand Teton - Day 2

We woke up bright and early again Monday morning! After a Starbucks stop (hadn't had one of those in five days!!), we paused at the park in Jackson to take L's picture in one of the elk antler arches.

Our first stop was Mormon Row. I really wanted to find this barn and take my own picture of it with the breathtaking backdrop of the Teton Range! I think this is such a beatiful barn! The Mormons had a group of folks come out from Utah and settle in this area in the mid 1800s but farming here wasn't easy and eventually they left, leaving their barns and houses to weather away. The park is now protecting them from destruction because they realize how iconic they are to many park visitors. This is Moulten Barn (funny thing is later in our trip in Oregon we met a descendant of the Moulten Family by sheer luck!).

Late morning we headed to Jenny Lake to ride a shuttle boat across the lake to do some hiking. We hiked up to Hidden Falls. It was only about a mile and a half round trip so nothing strenuous. The falls were super crowded!

Hidden Falls:

After riding the boat back across the lake, we made our way to Menor's Ferry District. Menor ran the only ferry that crossed the Snake River in the late 1800s. He also had a general store on the bank of the ferry dock. Once again, our Little House fan was in heaven! We took a ranger guided walk abround the Menor Ferry District. It was very informative and interesting!
Leila asked for a tin cup from the general store because Laura and Mary got tin cups for Christmas one year. How could we say no to that?!?!

Chapel of the Transfiguration: this church was built for the cowboys that worked on the ranges.
This church is lovely from the outside, but the inside view is downright unbeatable! I might go to church if I got to look at that every Sunday morning!

Later in the afternoon, Leila turned in her ranger booklet and became a Grand Teton Junior Ranger! This time I did my own booklet and earned my very first badge!!
That night we booked it back to Jackson to make it in time to watch the nightly Shoot Out in Town Square. We made it with a minute to spare! It was super cheesy and terribly acted, but it was an experience that was pretty fun nevertheless. The actors pulled kids out of the audience to dance. That's L in the center.
She realized that the man she was dancing with was the actor playing Giddeon in Jackson Hole Playhouse's production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Giddeon is her favorite brother!  We weren't gonna tell her that show was playing because it was a late start time of 8 pm. Well, she found out and was extremely disappointed to think she would be missing the stage version of one of her all-time favorite musicals! We went to dinner and I snuck out and called for tickets. You should have seen her face when we told her we were going right after dinner!!!
The show was really good! Thank goodness! It would have been torture enough to sit through a bad show, but it would have been unbearable that night as the AC was broken! The house was at least 90 degrees! I am not even kidding!!! It was SWELTERING!! Again, all we can say is THANK GOODNESS the show was good!!! It was so hot that Chris watched the second half in his undershirt!
We came out of the show and experienced one of Wyoming's famous lightning storms. Man, it was a big one! Lightning doesn't scare me, but I found myself getting a bit nervous as we walked to the car! What a day!!
